CAPBLS (Combined Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support)
Duration

3 hours

Validity

1 year

Description

Do you know that:

  • Almost 2 in 1,000 people admitted to hospital will have a cardiac arrest
  • Half of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are witnessed by a bystander
  • Immediate CPR can quadruple survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
  • Defibrillation within 3–5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates up to 50–70%
  • Each minute of delay reduces the probability of survival to hospital discharge by 10%.

This course gives participants the skills to initially manage both adult and child and infant patients in an emergency and/or cardiac arrest.

Along with theory, hands-on rehearsal – including the use of a defibrillator – will equip participants with the confidence to use their skills in an emergency. They will also explore the need for empathy at a time of huge stress for all concerned.

Competency at basic life support and the safe use of the AED for both adults and children is undertaken through a continuous assessment process.

This course counts as 3 hours verifiable CPD for dental care professionals registered with the General Dental Council.

Course content includes

  • Chain of survival
